What can we do after the pandemic is over?

Whilst we’re all trying to get through these difficult times in our own lives, I’m sure we’re aware of the havoc this pandemic has created across the globe. And as governments, NGOs, hospitals, and many individuals and institutions are trying their best to help the world overcome the situation, there’s one crucial aspect we may not be considering just yet.

What’s going to happen AFTER the pandemic has subsided? For something so powerful and unexpected, what will the after-effects look like? What about the families and children who lost their breadwinners? What about children and young people who lost their parents? The young people who lost their jobs? Children who have been left a mess without knowing where their parents are or even if they’re dead. Undoubtedly, those suffering as you are reading this article need help and support the most. But equally important is our consideration for the generation to come.

Open up any global news website and you’ll see that even though the pandemic is writing its own story, we’ve got companies and individuals developing and helping the economy and existing industries progress. We have the power, the capacity, the resources to protect and preserve life. We can blame the unexpected and uninvited virus for what’s going on today. But if we fail to protect our generations to come amidst all this, we are to be blamed. The mental and physical impact of this pandemic is already beyond our comprehension.

Wanting to create a change, an impact, or initiating growth requires an environment. Just like a tree, a building, a book, or a car — would need some kind of foundation and an environment in which it can be created. And we do see that in our communities too. The same reason that schools put up posters and learning resources around classrooms. Or shops, cafes, and restaurants that are built around a housing complex to create an environment and build a community.

All of us today need to consciously make an effort to do our part in creating a better environment for the communities and lives that may have been displaced or left helpless. Especially, children and young adults that will face a loss of lifestyle, education, and probably even basic necessities.

For young people like me, we’re not very equipped with the resources or the right information to help and do our part. So, if you’re reading this and you know anyone or any institution or charity that can help and support the children (especially their basic necessities and education) and families in days to come — please share them with your respective communities and industries.

Or, if you have the resources and ideas yourself to help and create a better and safe environment for the generations to come, please take the opportunity to do so and share the same with the communities around you.

Having said this, unfortunately, many people have taken the opposite route to make the most of out this situation. Please be mindful and alert regarding any charity scams or frauds.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope you and your families are safe. Please make an effort to call or message people you know and offer any help if you can. I’m sure many of you already are and for that, truly, our generation and the future ones are indebted to you.
